Tara will be giving one presentation and facilitating one workshop during the festival. Her presentation “Your Body is a Revolution: an Exploration into the Intersections of Social Justice and Somatic Healing” will be at the Rosehip Stage at 11:30 am Saturday, July 6th.
She will also be co-leading a workshop with Kade Bailey. Beyond the Wound
The Beyond the Wound Summit is made up of 3 weeks pre-recorded interviews with thoughtful leaders in the field of religious trauma recovery. All weekly videos will be available after each live, so that you can watch them at your own pace.
This event addresses religious trauma in an embodied way, focusing on healing the integrated self: body, mind, heart (soul/spirit/emotion/psyche).
Our speakers are leaders in their fields and come to you as guides, not gurus, because they know you are the kind of people who don’t want another list of rules to follow but instead want to feel empowered to chart your own path with confidence, freedom and joy.
Confessions of the Radically Saved
Josh Harris and Tara Teng will examine the impact of their religious upbringing, illuminating the confusion and trauma that many former evangelicals are still grappling with. Moderated by VPL Writer in Resident, Harrison Mooney.
Josh Harris is an American former Evangelical Christian pastor. Harris' 1997 book I Kissed Dating Goodbye helped shape purity culture for many Christian millennials. Harris was lead pastor of Covenant Life Church in Maryland from 2004 until 2015. In 2018, Harris disavowed I Kissed Dating Goodbye and discontinued its publication. The following year, Harris announced that he had "undergone a massive shift in regard to my faith in Jesus," and had given up on his Christian faith.
Tara Teng is a writer and Embodiment Coach who helps people heal trauma and dismantle purity culture. She is also a TEDx Speaker, a former Miss Canada and one of the Globe and Mail’s “Top 25 Most Transformational Canadians.” Teng received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal for her advocacy work which advanced the socio-economic status of women. Her first book, Your Body is a Revolution: Healing Our Relationships with Our Bodies, Each Other and the Earth, is forthcoming from Broadleaf Books in May 2023.
