Sisterhood, sisterhood, sisterhood! With International Women’s Day just around the corner, my weekend has been overflowing with inspiration, camaraderie and solidarity…and its not even over yet!
It all started with SheTalks YVR, an internationally recognized event that aspires to harness the power of a women collective in all sectors using an open platform for women to share with each other. SheTalksYVR inspires connection through real women with real stories.
16 women spoke at 8 minutes each, sharing stories that were personal and authentic to them. There was too much goodness to encompass in one single post, however, the overall message of the day was that our journeys as women are all different but each experience we are given, whether good or bad, is an opportunity to create change and move you forward into the person you were meant to be.
What are you holding on to that is meant to help others in the community?
Then the Today’s Modern Woman of Faith Conference began, bringing together women of faith under one roof to embrace our strengths, weaknesses and gifts given to us from God. The speakers came from various religions, denominations and walks of life.
Some of my favourite quotes from the evening were:
“Allow yourself to be silent so God’s patience can pursue you.”- Shylo Sharity, Singer & Songwriter
“What your abuser meant to rob from you is what God will use to redeem you.” Kamal Dhillon, Author of Black and Blue Sari & Advocate to end domestic violence
“Racism is missing out on the full glory of humanity” and “No fear. Do not settle for smallness or living less than your full self.”- Idelette McVicker, Author & Founder/ Editor of SheLoves Magazine
Taslim Jaffer spoke about the prejudice she’s experienced as a Muslim woman and reminded everyone the importance of embracing others so that we can create a peaceful world for our children. While Dana Huggett shared some of the most painful moments of her journey and how God used her marriage to display His glorious ability to transform the imperfect people we are through redemption and grace.
Finally the event Host and MC, Tammy-Lynn McNabb’s desire to build up and empower women to walk in their destiny was evident and woven throughout the entire night.
It is a beautiful thing, when the women of the world come together, in peace and unity, to be change agents for the social good of our communities.
Of all the voices and testimonies we heard yesterday, the resounding message that was meditating on my heart was this:
When we are released from our fears and move forward to walk in the freedom of truth and love, we unleash a revolution that expands beyond ourselves, bringing freedom to women in our midst. This is not only powerful but absolutely necessary, in our hearts and the lives of those who follow after us.
Let us build a better future, not only for our sisters now, but our daughters yet to come.
With all this inspiration flowing through my veins, I am bursting with excitement for what we can accomplish together. Stay tuned for a big giveaway launching tomorrow on my Instagram in honour of International Women’s Day this week.
PS- Big Shoutout to our girl, Shalom Reimer, for winning the title of Miss Teen Canada 2016 in Montreal last night! We are so proud of you, girl! Way to bring the crown back to BC!
