We all live busy lives and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy full days. But sometimes days at home are my favourite. No hustle and bustle, just snuggles and cuddles, nursing and train building, book reading and baking. Life with a Mama and her toddler.
We cuddle a lot when we’re at home. These chunky knit Basha blankets from Bangladesh are a favourite of ours to cuddle up with. Bengali women skillfully weave repurposed strips of cotton fabric into these colourful blankets. Basha provides dignified work for women who have been rescued from human trafficking in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Each blanket is one of a kind and the name of the woman who made it is stitched onto the label of every one.
It is this kind of beauty and dignity that are major features of all the items we have in our home. And we love to look around each room and think of the people who made each piece of artwork. It reminds us to pray for the global community and that our intentional actions can impact someone else.
American Nomad has so many beautiful fair trade, artisan made products from all around the world that make socially conscious shopping very easy. This gorgeous Marukku Stand from India doubles as a place to display both appetizers when guests are visiting or jewelry when I’m just at home. I love that the artisans behind this piece receive education and medical treatment as well as sustainable employment through membership with this co-op. This is holistic life-changing solutions that go much further beyond simply fair trade.
To encourage you to bring these beautiful artisan pieces into your home, I’ve teamed up with American Nomad to give one lucky reader a $50 gift card.
