Some Sparkle and a Whole Lot of Freedom!
Walls shaking, wine glasses rattling…me- staring wide eyed at Chris and rushing over to stand beside him, clutching his arm in the next room while he calmly counts down the seconds (bless him). And just like that its over, a 4.8 earthquake off the coast of Victoria, rocking our homes and sleeping babes to remind us that we never can get quite too comfortable.
2015 was also a flash before my eyes. It came. It rocked my world. It went. And now I’m looking back on some incredible memories of motherhood, marriage, doula work and the ever evolving pursuit of justice and freedom through the 365 days of 2015.
Intentional Action is my goal for 2016. There is so much good that we can do in the world around us if we are intentional about what we do with our time and resources. One such action is shopping ethical by buying fair trade. Our consumer power makes billions every year for major corporations; what if we were intentional and chose to support the dignity, freedom and craftsmanship of artisans around the world through fair trade purchases? We could support single mothers, hard working fathers, survivors of human trafficking, refugees of war, and raise up impoverished villagers by simply shopping ethical and fair trade.
Over the past number of years I have partnered with numerous organizations around the globe who work to alleviate poverty and restore dignity to some of the most vulnerable in our world. The good news is that by shopping fair trade we can be part of the solution to some of the world’s most devastating problems. We can directly work to end human slavery and sweatshop work by shopping fair trade. This goes far beyond charity; this is world change!
One such organization that I am proud to introduce you to is the beautiful Senhoa Foundation, a social enterprise based in Cambodia that works to employ, empower and emancipate at-risk women and survivors of sex trafficking through dignified and safe employment. These women create high quality Swarovski jewelry that has been featured by VOGUE, Lucky Magazine, TEDx, the Source Awards and many others. As the women work with beautiful, sparkling and high quality crystals, they learn to associate themselves as someone of equally high quality and value, a narrative not often spoken to women who have survived the abuses of the sex trade. They learn that they are intrinsically valuable and beautiful, capable of creating beauty in the world.
When you support Senhoa, you are supporting beauty and freedom as 100% of jewelry sales go directly to field programs serving those in need. I can’t think of any sparkle more radiant to wear this NYE.
